Historical High-Alpine Touring Pioneer
Operating since 2013, Aksuu Backcountry Yurt Lodge pioneered high-altitude ski touring in Kyrgyzstan. Located at 2,600 meters above sea level in the Aksuu Gorge (east of Karakol), the camp sits in the high snow-belt of the Terskey Alatoo range.
Step directly out of the yurt door onto skin tracks leading into glaciated peaks, steep couloirs, and deep Tien Shan spruce tree runs.
Yurt Comfort & Facilities
- Traditional Heated Yurts: Handcrafted Kyrgyz felt yurts lined with heavy insulation and heated with cast-iron stoves.
- Wood-Fired Mountain Banya (Sauna): Mountain sauna for muscle recovery after 1,200m+ vertical days.
- Gear Drying Area: Dedicated heated drying racks inside the main yurt.
- Power & Device Charging: 220V power stations powered by solar and evening generator runs.
Surrounding Slopes & Terrain
- Storm Days (Tree Skiing): Dense Tien-Shan fir forests providing visibility and deep blower powder right down to the valley floor.
- Alpine Bowls & Ridges (2,800m – 3,700m): Wide-open powder fields with consistent 30°–38° pitches and long uninterrupted descents.
- Spring Couloirs: North-facing couloirs holding cold powder well into late March and April.
