Aksuu Gorge & Arashan

Rugged high-altitude valleys with massive vertical drop and hot springs

Overview of Aksuu Gorge

The Aksuu Gorge is the crown jewel of big-mountain touring in Eastern Kyrgyzstan. Carved deep into the Terskey Alatoo mountain range, this valley rises rapidly from the sub-alpine forest into glaciated 4,000m peaks.

Terrain Breakdown

  • Lower Valley (2,200m – 2,700m): Dense Tien Shan fir (Schrenk’s spruce) providing critical visibility during heavy storms.
  • Mid-Mountain Bowls (2,700m – 3,300m): Wide powder basins with classic 30° to 35° cruisy terrain.
  • High Peaks & Couloirs (3,300m – 3,900m): North and North-East facing chutes holding dry, cold snow well into April.
