Jyrgalan Valley

The snow-magnet of Central Asia with 360-degree touring options

Overview of Jyrgalan Valley

Formerly a Soviet coal mining settlement, Jyrgalan has transformed into the undisputed snow capital of Central Asia. Surrounded on all sides by rolling ridges and dramatic peaks, it catches immense snowfall as weather systems hit the eastern cul-de-sac of the Issyk-Kul basin.

Snowpack Dynamics & Seasonality

  • November Early Snow: November’s second major snowfall is traditionally super massive and forms an exceptionally safe, fun base for tree glades and open bowls.
  • The Safest Window (Late Dec – Early Jan): Peak stability across the valley. Cold, dry continental powder with minimal persistent weak layers.
  • February Caution: As solar radiation strengthens in mid-January, south-facing aspects develop sun crusts, while high-altitude winds create sugary faceted layers. Skiers should avoid steep consequential lines in February and focus on sheltered terrain.
  • March Spring Touring: Hot daytime sun transforms slopes into spring corn, while north-facing gullies stay cold and fresh. Massive spring storms can deliver up to 1 meter overnight.

Key Zone Highlights
